Haathi Mere Saathi is an Indian film and a favourite with children in the early 1970s. The movie has a Disneyesque appeal with an Indian twist.
Plot
Orphaned Raju, in the company of four elephants, has to perform with them at street corners, in order to keep alive. Slowly he amasses a fortune, and is able to build his own private zoo, housing tigers, lions, bears, and of course the four elephants. He treats all the animals as his friends. He meets with Tanu, and both fall in love. Tanu's dad, Ratanlal, is opposed to this alliance, but subsequently relents, and permits the young couple to get married. Tanu is unhappy with the amount of time Raju spends with his animal friends, and this causes some bitterness between them. Things do not improve when a child is born, as Tanu fears that one day the child will be harmed by one of the animals, and hence Raju is told to make a choice between his animal friends or his wife and son.
Mera Gaon Mera Desh
Mera Gaon Mera Desh (Hindi: मेरा गाँव मेरा देश) is a 1971 Indian film made by Raj Khosla, starring Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna as the villain.
As a bandit, Vinod Khanna's role gave him visibility and made him a star. Dharmendra plays a reformed criminal who helps a one armed retired army man protect a village from the dacoits. Asha Parekh played Dharmendra's love interest. However, it was supporting actress Laxmi Chayya who stole the film by dancing circles around Dharmendra and Asha to the evergreen hit "Maar diya jaaye ya chhod diya jaaye, bol tere saath kya sulook kiya jaaye". As the audience holds its collective breath, the sexy vamp cuts the ropes that bind the hero’s hands after she has drugged the villains.
The film is particularly noted for a rural setting, and it became a super hit, taking second place at the box office for 1971. It is also said to have many elements that inspired one of the box office champs of all time, Sholay(1975). [2]
The climax fights are still remembered for the realism and are very convincing although a single man is fighting a horde of bandits.

Amar Prem (Hindi: अमर प्रेम, Urdu: امر پریم, Translation: "Immortal Love") is a 1972 Bollywood film starring Rajesh Khanna, Sharmila Tagore, Vinod Mehra and Madan Puri. It was directed by Shakti Samanta. The movie is a remake of a Bengali movie, by the same director. The film sentimental and has great music by R.D. Burman and sung by famous playback singers Kishore Kumar, RD Burman's father S.D. Burman and Lata Mangeshkar, and the lyrics are by Anand Bakshi. Pushpa (Sharmila Tagore) is sold to a brothel in Calcutta by her village-uncle, Nepali Babu (Madan Puri). On her audition at the brothel, Anand Babu (Rajesh Khanna), a business man seeking love, is attracted by her singing. Anand Babu is unhappily married, and lonely and becomes her regular and exclusive customer as love blossoms. Later a widowed man with his family, from the same village as her, moves in close to Pushpa's place. The new neighbour's son, Nandu (Vinod Mehra) doesn't get any love at home, as his father works all the time and his step mother doesn't care about him. Pushpa starts treating Nandu as her own son when she gets to know that he is from the same village as her. The story evolves around Pushpa's great love for both Anand Babu and Nandu. The story details how circumstances stop Pushpa from meeting them as people and society prejudge her. Amar Prem won 3 Filmfare Awards for: and was nominated for another 3 Filmfare Awards: Songs Sharmilee is a 1971 Hindi movie produced by Subodh Mukherjee and directed by Samir Ganguly. The film stars Shashi Kapoor, Rakhee, Ranjeet, Anwar and Asit Sen. The films very popular music is by S. D. Burman. Rakhee played a double role in this film, and it's success helped make her one of the decades top leading lady in Hindi films. In Sameer Ganguly's "Sharmilee" (1971) the actress Raakhee plays what is commonly referred to in Hindi 'Bollywood' films as a 'dual role'. Kanchan and Kamini are twin sisters whose personalities are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Kanchan is painfully shy, loves nature, and always wears a saree. Kamini on the other hand is an extrovert 'Western' fashion plate who loves to play tricks on people and is studying for her Master's. The film revolves around the two sisters and their love for the same man (played by a very young Shashi Kapoor). This structure of the morality tale is the thin story of "Sharmilee". What is at the true heart of the film though (and all of the films like it during the period) is the dual emotions of Indian society at once fascinated and excited with all things modern 'Western' on one side and on the other side, the moral dread and fear for the impact the 'West' could have on the traditional fabric, stability, and culture of a country in the midst of transition. It is interesting to note that young Indian woman flocked to the theaters to watch the female stars of the time, like Raakhee, Sharmila Tagore, Sadhana, and Zeenat Aman, to see what new Western fashions, hairstyle, and make-up they were wearing. Often the new styles seen in films became the fashion rage on the street. "Sharmilee" is also full of classic music by S.D. Burman sung by Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle and Lata Mangeshkar. The songs, 'O Meri Sharmilee', 'Khilte Jain Gul Yahan' and the Lata-Kishore duet 'Aaj Madhosh Hua' were chart toppers. The film also was a huge hit and was instrumental in making Bengali actress Raakhee a big star in Bollywood.Amar Prem

In many ways the hero is a reflection of the Bollywood audience's fascination and desire for the Westernized twin Kamini played by fashionable starlet Raakhee who wears revealing bathing suits, silver lamè pantsuits and upswept bouffant hairstyles. The Hero is infatuated like the audience with the glitz, novelty, and glamour the ultra hip attitudes of the West present. The hero though is shown that what he took for love is nothing but an illusion. In "Sharmilee" the Hero is literally shown that his love for Kamini is an illusion (the hero sees what he takes to be a ghost of Kamini, who is actually Kanchan in disguise). The film ends in harmony with the wishes of society met. The hero and true heroine, Kamini (the traditional sister) overcome the whims of mere love to make the 'right' choice. Fate intervenes to guide the hero down the correct 'socially correct' path. Everybody ends up happy, except for the Westernized girl, who ends up dead.
